Who is Joe Powell?
Not only is Joe Powell the driver but the owner too. Oh, and don't forget Joe is the lead mechanic and the crew chief to add to his duties. As if driving isn't enough!
Joe and his wife are the owners of the Joe Powell Motorsports Warrior Blowers sponsored Blown Alcohol Funny Car and have been involved in racing for many years.
Joe has spent his entire life around racing. Joe’s father raced a B-gas 37 Chevy coupe “ the Vintage 37" for most of Joe’s childhood. Joe cut his teeth in racing, working on his fathers race car and getting in trouble for ruining his school clothes working on the B-Gasser. Joe knew at a very young age that he would someday drive a Funny Car.
As soon as Joe started driving he started bracket racing his 1969 Camaro at the Famed Orange County International Raceway. When OCIR closed Joe moved to racing 120 mph Go-Karts honing his ability concentrate at high speeds and increasing g-loads.
In 1999 Joe and his wife decided it was time to get back to their true love
Drag Racing. They bought a 105" 27 T-Altered with a 500 ci Donovan Chevy to run in Super Eliminator. A few years later the opportunity to purchase a Blown Alcohol Funny car was irresistible and the Street Lethal Funny Car came to live with the Powells.
When Joe is not racing he is an Administrative Fire Captain in charge of Emergency Medical Services for a southern California fire department. Joe also owns Advanced Medical Technologies, a company that invents innovative emergency medical products for paramedics and firefighters.
